The Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Clos des Varoilles Monopole joined the domaine in 2020. At 6 hectares, it’s the fifth largest monopole in the Côte, and its sheltered position by the Combe Lavaux brings a welcome freshness (especially valuable in today’s warmer vintages).
The domaine itself was created in 1988 by Henri-Frédéric Roch, co-director of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and grandson of Henri Leroy. Farmed organically with old vines (30–100 years), the estate harvests late for full ripeness and vinifies naturally with whole-bunch fermentation, foot treading, and minimal sulphur.
Unsurprisingly given the calibre of their vineyards the quality is always outstanding.
