Domaine de Montille is one of Burgundy’s most revered estates and this burgeoning family property is very much at the top of its game, producing wines of exceptional quality: scintillating, proper Burgundies, unusually across both reds and whites.
Features as one of the Top 10 Côte de Beaune Red Wine Producers and Top 10 Côte de Beaune White Wine Producers in Tim Atkin's Burgundy 2022 Special Report.
Self-confessed ‘acid freak’ Brian Sieve was especially careful with battonage and lees-stirring of the Chardonnays in 2022, to maintain freshness and verve, noting that it was not a high acid vintage. A little less new oak (not that there is ever more than just enough) and whole bunches in the reds than in the previous solar vintages, plus the gentler acid profile means the wines have a charm and immediacy to rival any vintage we’ve tasted from the domaine.
“Named for the shrine atop the hill of Meursault, where so many of the appellation’s best vineyards are situated, this is a serious, impressive wine, blended from parcels in Casses-Tetes, and Petits Charrons – the latter being particularly limestone rich. Racy, spicy, lime-inflected orchard fruit nose that builds on the attack with good intensity and length, filling out the mid-palate with cinnamon and green plum, and candied fruit notes, with a salted almond finish.”

What the critics say:
"Pale lemon. The nose starts out quite lean but begins to fill out to be more typical Meursault. Beautifully mouth filling, just a little citrus scent on top of the white orchard fruit, apples and pears together then a satisfying long finish, still with a vivacity. Drink from 2026-2032. Tasted: October 2023. ****"
"The 2022 Meursault St. Christophe, named after the hillside, comes from two vineyards (Castets and Petit Charron). It has a clean and focused bouquet, touches of yellow fruit mixed with orange pith. The palate plays with a subtle reduction, with fine acidity, gaining weight towards the cohesive and quintessentially Meursault finish. Worth seeking out. "
