The 2016 Château La Croix Du Casse is classic Pomerol through and through - Merlot-driven, plush, and generous, yet with the structure to carry it forward. It opens with ripe berry fruit and hints of kirsch, before unfolding into darker notes of chocolate and spice. The tannins are present but polished.
The estate itself has a fascinating history. Once the sister château to Clinet under Jean-Michel Arcaute, it’s now part of the Borie Manoux family of properties, where it continues to deliver excellent value in the often-pricey world of Pomerol. With its Merlot heart and accessible style, La Croix Du Casse remains a good buy for anyone who loves the richness and elegance this appellation does so well.
What the critics say:
"Fabulous aromas of subtle, ripe fruit with hazelnut and coffee undertones. Full-bodied, round and very silky with beautiful fruit and a gorgeous finish. Very sexy and exotic. Find this. Try after 2022."
"A nine-hectare estate located in the south of the Pomerol appellation, on sand/gravel soils with additional iron deposits. Croix du Casse produces plummy, voluptuous wines and in 2016 has added freshness and elegance to the soft, weighty palate."
